A heavily cluttered home needs a clear plan and room for personal decisions. Start with the areas you want help with and identify who will approve what can be removed before the visit.
Set priorities for the space
- Rooms or storage areas included in the first stage of the cleanout.
- Furniture, boxes, bags, and loose household items approved for removal.
- Documents, keepsakes, valuables, and everyday essentials to retain.
- Blocked access routes or conditions that need a separate assessment.
Agree on decisions before removal
Choose a point of contact and a simple way to mark items that stay, items approved for removal, and anything undecided. Explain whether the resident or a trusted person will be present to answer questions. Discuss a partial cleanout if some rooms need more time.
Share photos only of areas you are comfortable showing and describe the current access conditions. Mention pest activity, mold, sharp objects, or other concerns before booking so the provider can confirm the scope. Item removal does not automatically include remediation, pest treatment, or deep cleaning.
Before you arrange pickup
Can I start with just one room?
Describe the priority room and the route to it. Ask about a limited first visit and how later stages would be arranged before deciding on a whole-property cleanout.
How do I make sure personal belongings stay?
Agree on the removal list and clearly identify retained or undecided items. Establish who can make decisions during the visit, and discuss how questions will be handled before work begins.
Does a cleanout include sanitizing the property?
Confirm cleaning and specialist work separately. Explain the condition of each area so removal, cleaning, and any other services can be assessed as distinct tasks.
